If a victim with a foreign-body airway obstruction becomes unresponsive, the first course of action is to lower them to a firm, flat surface and begin CPR starting with chest compressions according to your level of training. After each set of compressions and before attempting rescue breaths, open the person's mouth and look for any visible obstruction to remove it if possible

. This approach is recommended because chest compressions can help dislodge the obstruction. Do not perform blind finger sweeps as this may push the object further down the airway

. Continue cycles of compressions and rescue breaths until the obstruction is cleared or advanced medical help arrives
