Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (often referred to as AOC) is an American politician and activist serving as the U.S. representative for New York's 14th congressional district since 2019. She is a member of the Democratic Party and is known for being the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. Ocasio-Cortez is recognized as a leading progressive voice, advocating for policies such as Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, worker cooperatives, tuition-free public colleges, and abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). She is also a member of the "Squad," a group of progressive Democratic congresswomen. Ocasio-Cortez garnered national attention after defeating a 10-term incumbent in a 2018 primary election, marking one of the biggest upsets in recent political history.

She has been active in key political issues, including environmental policies, social justice, and international matters such as the Israel-Palestine conflict. She describes herself as a democratic socialist and is part of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
