Allerheiligen is a Catholic feast day observed on November 1 each year, dedicated to remembering all saints. In Germany, it is a statutory holiday in several states, notably Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rheinland-Pfalz, and the Saarland; in other states it is not a public holiday. The day is followed by Allerseelen (All Souls’ Day) on November 2, which is a time to pray for all the departed. In the Orthodox tradition, related commemorations fall on the first Sunday after Pentecost, and various Christian denominations may mark the day differently.
