Ardross Castle is a magnificent 19th-century mansion located in the Scottish Highlands, just north of Inverness in Ross-shire. It was built around 1847 on the site of an old Sutherland hunting lodge. The castle was constructed for Sir Alexander Matheson and designed by architect Alexander Ross in the Scots Baronial style. The building features a square-shaped main house with a courtyard and servants' quarters, including a four-storey tower and several bellcast turrets. The estate includes beautiful formal gardens, woodland areas, a bowling green, and terraces, with over 100 acres of parkland alongside the River Alness. The castle has undergone significant alterations, including the addition of a Great Hall with a hammerbeam roof in 1880/81. After Sir Alexander’s death, the castle was inherited by his son Kenneth but later sold to Charles William Dyson Perrins, heir to the Lea & Perrins company. In recent times, Ardross Castle has become a notable venue for weddings and events and has been used as a filming location for TV shows such as the BBC reality game show "The Traitors" in both its UK and US versions. The estate is available for exclusive hire but does not operate as a hotel with individual rooms for rent.
