If you filed your 2023 and 2024 Georgia state income tax returns on time (by the May 1, 2025 deadline or by October 15 if you had an extension), you can expect to receive your tax refund as part of a one-time special tax refund issued under Governor Brian Kemp's HB 112 legislation. The state began issuing these refunds starting in June 2025, with payments expected to be delivered within 6 to 8 weeks after filing. This means most refunds should arrive between mid-June and early August. Refunds are sent according to the payment method you chose on your tax return—either direct deposit or paper check. The refund amounts are capped based on your filing status:
- $250 for single filers and married individuals filing separately
- $375 for head of household filers
- $500 for married couples filing jointly
You can check your eligibility and track your refund status through the Georgia Tax Center’s Surplus Tax Refund Eligibility Tool by entering your Social Security Number or Tax ID and your federal adjusted gross income from your 2023 tax return. If you filed on time and meet the eligibility requirements, you should receive your refund soon or already have received it by now.
