Danielle Fishel was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which is a very early form of breast cancer. Specifically, she had high-grade DCIS with micro-invasion, meaning the cancer cells were mostly confined within a milk duct but had started to breach the duct membrane slightly. This stage is often classified as stage 0 or sometimes stage 1 because it is non-invasive or minimally invasive breast cancer. She was diagnosed in July 2024 following a routine mammogram and has undergone a lumpectomy, a margin revision surgery, and radiation treatment. DCIS is considered an early and treatable form of breast cancer, with a generally favorable prognosis when caught early like in Fishel's case.
