The Brahmo Samaj was founded by Raja Ram Mohan Roy in 1828 in Calcutta. It began as a monotheistic reformist movement aimed at promoting the worship of one eternal and immutable God and rejecting practices such as idol worship, polytheism, and the caste system. Raja Ram Mohan Roy is considered the father of the Indian renaissance and the founder of this socio-religious reform organization.
