Sea turtles vary widely in size depending on the species. The smallest sea turtles, such as the olive and Kemp's ridley, grow to about 70 cm (just over 2 feet) in shell length and weigh up to around 45 kg (100 lbs). Larger species like the loggerhead have shell lengths between 65 and 115 cm (2 to 3.8 feet) and weigh between 40 and 180 kg (90 to 400 lbs). The largest sea turtle is the leatherback, which averages 1.5 to 2 meters (4 to 6 feet) in length and weighs 300 to 500 kg (660 to 1,100 lbs). The largest recorded leatherback measured 2.56 meters (8.4 feet) and weighed 916 kg (2,019 lbs).
