Germany is approximately 357,000 square kilometers (about 137,800 square miles) in size. This makes it the seventh-largest country in Europe. To give a sense of scale, Germany is about the same size as the U.S. state of Montana. It covers a land area of around 349,250 square kilometers (134,846 square miles) with an additional 8,350 square kilometers (3,224 square miles) of water. Germany is bordered by nine countries and has a diverse geography ranging from the Alps in the south to the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts in the north.
