Iceland is about 103,000 square kilometers (approximately 39,768 square miles) in size. It is the 18th-largest island in the world and the second-largest island in Europe, slightly bigger than Ireland and roughly the size of the U.S. state of Ohio or Colorado. Iceland's population is around 380,000, and its population density is low, with about 3 to 3.7 people per square kilometer. Most of the population lives in coastal areas, especially around the capital Reykjavik. The island features a diverse landscape including glaciers, volcanic fields, and lava plateaus. This size includes the main island plus about 30 minor surrounding islands, and about 62.7% of the land is tundra with significant glacial coverage as well.
