The big skate (Beringraja binoculata), the largest skate species in North America, can grow up to about 2.4 meters (7.9 feet) in length, though typically they do not exceed 1.8 meters (5.9 feet). They can weigh up to around 91 kilograms (201 pounds), with some records showing up to 200 pounds. These skates have a diamond-shaped body with wide pectoral fins, and their size makes them the third largest skate species worldwide.
