The Titanic wreck lies approximately 12,500 feet (3,810 meters or about 2.4 miles) beneath the surface of the Atlantic Ocean. This extreme depth is also referred to as the "midnight zone" where it is completely dark, the pressure is immense (over 5,000 pounds per square inch), and temperatures are near freezing (1-2°C).
