The water in Venice's canals varies in depth depending on the location. Most of the smaller canals are about 1.5 to 2 meters (approximately 5 to 6.5 feet) deep. The Grand Canal, which is the main waterway through Venice, is deeper with an average depth of about 5 meters (16 feet). Some canals like the Canale della Giudecca can reach depths between 12 to 17 meters (39 to 56 feet). Outside the historical city but within the lagoon, depths increase even more, with some areas reaching around 50 meters (164 feet) deep. Additionally, the depth of the canals changes with the tide, typically varying by about 0.5 to 1 meter every six hours and sometimes more, which affects the water level significantly throughout the day.
