James Redford, the filmmaker and son of Robert Redford, died from bile duct cancer, a type of liver cancer, at the age of 58. He had a history of liver disease caused by a rare autoimmune disease diagnosed in childhood, for which he received two liver transplants in the 1990s. His liver disease returned, and cancer was discovered while he was waiting for another liver transplant. The bile duct cancer, also called cholangiocarcinoma, is a rare form of cancer affecting the bile ducts. James Redford passed away at his home in Marin County in October 2020.
