Marine One, the call sign for any U.S. Marine Corps aircraft carrying the U.S. President, gets to the UK by being transported aboard large military cargo planes such as the C-17 Globemaster or C-5 Galaxy. The helicopters, such as the Sikorsky VH-3D Sea King versions commonly used as Marine One, have their rotors removed to fit inside these transport planes and are reassembled upon arrival in the UK. These helicopters are flown in as part of a larger fleet that includes decoys and other support helicopters to ensure security. For example, multiple VH-3D Sea King helicopters and other support helicopters have been flown into RAF Northolt near London to support presidential visits. This allows Marine One to be ready for use once the President lands in the UK, often accompanied by other aircraft and a full security motorcade.
