Ned Kelly died by execution through hanging on November 11, 1880, at the Old Melbourne Gaol. Prior to his execution, he was captured after a shootout at Glenrowan, where he was severely wounded and then tried and convicted of murder. His death was reportedly instantaneous when his neck was dislocated during the hanging, and he died without struggle.
