To deactivate your Facebook account temporarily in 2025, follow these steps either on the Facebook mobile app or web browser:
Using the Facebook Mobile App (iOS or Android)
- Open the Facebook app and tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the bottom right corner.
- Scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy, then tap Settings.
- Tap Accounts Center.
- Select Personal details , then tap Account ownership and control.
- Tap Deactivation or deletion.
- Choose the Facebook account you want to deactivate.
- Select Deactivate account and tap Continue.
- Enter your Facebook password and tap Continue.
- Choose a reason for deactivating and tap Continue.
- Optionally, choose whether to automatically reactivate your account after a set time or keep it deactivated indefinitely.
- Tap Deactivate My Account to confirm.
Your account will be hidden until you log back in to reactivate it. Messenger can be used separately if you choose
Using a Web Browser
- Go to your Facebook profile and click your profile icon in the top right.
- Select Settings & privacy > Settings.
- Click Accounts Center on the left menu.
- Select Personal details > Account ownership and control.
- Click Deactivation or deletion.
- Select Deactivate account and follow the on-screen instructions to confirm
Deactivating your account is temporary and reversible by logging back in, unlike permanent deletion.
