You may have a urinary tract infection (UTI) if you experience one or more of the following symptoms:
- A burning or painful sensation when you urinate
- A strong, frequent, or urgent need to urinate, sometimes with only small amounts of urine passing
- Cloudy, dark, bloody, or foul-smelling urine
- Pain or pressure in the lower abdomen, pelvis, or lower back
- A feeling of incomplete bladder emptying
- Fever, chills, or feeling unwell (this may indicate the infection has reached the kidneys)
- In some cases, especially in children, fever may be the only symptom
- Older adults may also show unusual changes like confusion or agitation
If experiencing these symptoms, especially pain with urination, frequent urination, and cloudy or bloody urine, it is likely a UTI. If symptoms include fever, chills, or back pain, seek medical attention promptly as the infection may be more serious.
