You can tell if your AirPods are charging by checking the status light on the charging case and by viewing the charge status on your paired device.
Checking the Charging Status via the Case Light
- When you place your AirPods in the charging case and open the lid, the status light will turn on for a few seconds.
- Amber (orange) light means the AirPods are currently charging.
- Green light means the AirPods are fully charged.
- If the AirPods are not in the case, the light indicates the charge status of the case itself: amber means less than one full charge remains, green means fully charged.
- The light is located on the front of the case for AirPods 3, 4, and AirPods Pro models; for older models, it is inside the case between the AirPods slots.
- The light stays on for about 8 seconds after opening the lid or connecting to power.
- If the light flashes amber, there may be a problem requiring a reset.
- No light means the case may be out of charge or not connected to power
Checking the Charging Status on Your iPhone, iPad, or Mac
- Hold your AirPods close to your iPhone or iPad and open the case lid; a pop-up will show the battery levels of both the AirPods and the case.
- On iPhone or iPad, you can also go to Settings > Bluetooth, tap the info icon next to your AirPods, and see the battery status.
- On Mac, open the lid or take the AirPods out of the case, click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar, and select your AirPods to view battery status.
- A lightning bolt icon next to the AirPods or case battery icon indicates they are actively charging.
- You can also add the Batteries widget on iOS to monitor charging status conveniently
