To take a screenshot on a Mac, use these main keyboard shortcuts:

• Capture the entire screen: Press Shift + Command + 3 simultaneously. The screenshot will be saved to your desktop.
• Capture a selected portion: Press Shift + Command + 4, then drag to select the area you want to capture, and release the mouse or trackpad button to save the screenshot.
• Capture a specific window: Press Shift + Command + 4, then press the Spacebar; the cursor turns into a camera icon. Click the window you want to capture.

You can also press Shift + Command + 5 to open the Screenshot app, which provides options to capture the whole screen, a window, or a selected portion, plus screen recording features. Screenshots are saved by default to the desktop but can be saved elsewhere via options in the app. These shortcuts work on recent macOS versions including macOS Sequoia (2025).
