Marine One, the U.S. presidential helicopter, is transported overseas primarily by large military cargo planes such as the C-17 Globemaster and the C-5 Galaxy. These planes can carry the helicopter with its rotors removed and also transport other important presidential transport equipment, including the presidential limousine known as "The Beast." Once the helicopter arrives at the destination, it is carefully unloaded, inspected, and prepared for use. This method is used because the range of Marine One helicopters is limited, making it necessary to transport them by air for long-distance international travel. Additionally, at least one Marine One helicopter is kept on standby at a local airport or airbase near the president's overseas destination for immediate use if needed. The entire operation is highly coordinated and secured to ensure the president’s mobility and safety abroad.
