As of August 2025, Russian troops are reported to be pushed back to varying distances from Kyiv, with some Russian units still around 35 to 55 kilometers (about 22 to 34 miles) away from the city center in areas east and northeast of Kyiv. Ukrainian forces have pushed back Russian troops, forcing them into defensive positions and preventing them from advancing closer. In some areas, Russian forces were earlier kept at bay approximately 20 to 30 kilometers from the center of Kyiv, but recent reports indicate they have been pushed back further to about 55 kilometers in these directions. There are no indications of Russian troops being within very close proximity to central Kyiv at this time.
