The HS2 trains are designed to reach a maximum speed of about 360 km/h (220 mph) on the dedicated HS2 high-speed tracks. On conventional tracks, where HS2 services also run, the speed will drop to around 200 km/h (125 mph). The design speed for the infrastructure is up to 400 km/h (250 mph), but the trains themselves are typically operated at a maximum of 360 km/h. Normal scheduled service speeds may be around 320-330 km/h, with the higher speeds reserved for making up time if needed.
