The One Chip Challenge is extremely hot, containing some of the hottest peppers in the world. The 2023 Paqui One Chip Challenge chip is made with Carolina Reaper peppers (up to 2.2 million Scoville Heat Units, SHU) and Naga Viper peppers (about 1.4 million SHU), both known for their intense heat. These peppers far surpass common consumer peppers like the jalapeño, which ranges between 2,500 to 8,000 SHU. The challenge involves eating just one of these intensely spicy chips and enduring the heat, which can cause significant mouth pain, nausea, vomiting, and other serious health risks due to the high capsaicin content. The chip's heat is so severe that it has led to warnings and even the discontinuation of the challenge after safety concerns arose.
