Glucagon is administered primarily by injection or nasal spray. The main methods of administration include:

• Injection subcutaneously (under the skin), intramuscularly (into a muscle), or intravenously (into a vein) using a prefilled syringe, auto-injector, or vial after reconstitution of powder with liquid.
• Intranasal administration as a powder spray into one nostril using a nasal spray device, which does not require inhalation.

Injection sites typically include the upper arm, thigh, or buttocks. After injection, the person should be turned onto their side to prevent choking if vomiting occurs. For severe hypoglycemia, if the person does not respond within 15 minutes, another dose may be administered. Nasal glucagon offers a needle-free option that is easy to use, especially for caregivers.
