Cats stay pregnant for about two months, with the typical gestation period averaging 63 to 65 days but it can sometimes range from 62 up to 72 days. This period is roughly divided into three trimesters of about 20-21 days each. During the first trimester, cats show few visible signs of pregnancy. By the second trimester, more noticeable physical changes such as a larger belly and behavioral calmness occur. The third trimester features significant changes including a swollen belly, increased appetite, and nesting behaviors as the cat prepares to give birth. Most cats deliver their kittens within about six hours at the end of this period.
