Tylenol has been on the market since 1955. It was first introduced by McNeil Laboratories as Tylenol Elixir for children, initially available by prescription only. In 1959, Johnson & Johnson bought McNeil, and by 1960 Tylenol became available over the counter. Thus, Tylenol has been available for about 70 years as of 2025.
