The AP Biology exam is 3 hours long in total. It consists of two main sections:

• Multiple-choice section: 60 questions to be completed in 90 minutes. This section accounts for 50% of the exam score.
• Free-response section: 6 questions (2 long and 4 short) to be completed in 90 minutes. This section also accounts for 50% of the exam score.

There is typically a 10-minute break between the multiple-choice and free- response sections, making the total testing time about 3 hours and 15 minutes including the break
