Passover lasts for seven or eight days depending on the community and location.
- In Israel, Passover is observed for 7 days , starting on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Nisan and ending on the 21st of Nisan
- In the Jewish Diaspora (outside Israel), it is traditionally celebrated for 8 days , with the first two and last two days observed as full holidays (Yom Tov)
The holiday begins at sundown on the 15th of Nisan and ends at nightfall on the 21st or 22nd (in the Diaspora) of Nisan. For example, in 2025, Passover starts at sundown on April 12 and ends at nightfall on April 20, lasting 8 days outside Israel and 7 days within Israel
. Passover commemorates the Exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt and includes rituals such as the Seder meal on the first night(s) and refraining from eating leavened bread throughout the holiday
