The AP World History: Modern exam lasts a total of 3 hours and 15 minutes. It is divided into two main sections: Section I (1 hour 35 minutes total):
- Multiple Choice: 55 questions to be completed in 55 minutes
- Short Answer: 3 questions to be completed in 40 minutes
Section II (1 hour 40 minutes total):
- Document-Based Question (DBQ): recommended 60 minutes (includes a 15-minute reading period)
- Long Essay Question (LEQ): recommended 40 minutes
Students may allocate time within Section II as they prefer but are advised to spend about 45 minutes on the DBQ and 40 minutes on the LEQ
