Temperature and Doneness
The turkey is done when the internal temperature reaches 165°F in the thickest part of the thigh (without touching bone). Always use a meat thermometer to ensure safe and proper cooking.
Cooking Times by Weight
Here are approximate total cooking times for unstuffed turkeys at 325°F:
- 8-12 pounds : 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours
- 12-14 pounds : 3 hours to 3 hours 45 minutes
- 14-18 pounds : 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours 15 minutes
- 18-20 pounds : 4 hours 15 minutes to 4 hours 45 minutes
- 20-24 pounds : 4 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours 15 minutes
For stuffed turkeys, add approximately 30 minutes to the total cooking time.
