Colorado has between 53 and 58 mountains that are officially considered "14ers," or peaks above 14,000 feet in elevation. The most commonly accepted count is:
- 53 peaks that meet the 300 feet topographic prominence rule, which defines a peak as rising at least 300 feet above the saddle connecting it to the nearest higher peak.
- 58 peaks if including additional named peaks that do not meet this strict prominence rule but are recognized historically or officially named.
This count depends on the criteria used for defining a fourteener, with 53 being the count of independently ranked peaks and 58 including some named sub- peaks.
