The human hand contains a total of 27 bones. These bones are categorized into three groups:
- Carpal bones: 8 bones located in the wrist area.
- Metacarpal bones: 5 bones that form the middle part of the hand (the palm).
- Phalanges: 14 bones in the fingers; each finger has three phalanges (proximal, middle, distal), except the thumb, which has two (proximal and distal)
This structure allows for the hand's wide range of motion and dexterity.
