There are six common types of asbestos that were available. These include:
- Chrysotile (white asbestos) - the most commonly used type, belonging to the serpentine group, with long, curly fibers.
- Amosite (brown asbestos) - an amphibole asbestos, used mainly in insulation and cement products.
- Crocidolite (blue asbestos) - another amphibole, known for high-temperature insulation, considered very hazardous.
- Anthophyllite - less common, often found as a contaminant in other asbestos or talc.
- Tremolite - also less common, typically a contaminant.
- Actinolite - similar to anthophyllite and tremolite, generally less prevalent.
The three most frequently used types were chrysotile, amosite, and crocidolite.
