There are generally seven continents in the world according to most widely accepted standards. These continents are:
- Asia
- Africa
- North America
- South America
- Antarctica
- Europe
- Australia (sometimes referred to as Oceania when including nearby islands)
However, continental classification can vary based on different models and criteria, with some counting as few as four or five continents depending on how landmasses are grouped and separated by water or cultural factors. But the most common teaching globally is that there are seven continents.
