There are generally seven continents in the world by the most widely accepted standard. These continents are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia (or Oceania).
The count and classification of continents can vary depending on the model or cultural perspective:
- Some models combine Europe and Asia into a single continent called Eurasia, reducing the count to six.
- Others combine North and South America as a single continent called America, resulting in five continents.
- There are also other views that consider fewer or more continents based on geological or cultural considerations, ranging from as few as four to as many as eight.
However, the most common and practical answer, especially in education and general usage, is seven continents.
