The National League Championship Series (NLCS) is a best-of-seven playoff series. This means that the series is played with a maximum of seven games, and the first team to win four games wins the NLCS and advances to the World Series. The format since 1985 is best-of-seven, played in a 2–3–2 home-game arrangement (the team with home-field advantage hosts Games 1, 2, 6, and 7, and the other team hosts Games 3, 4, and 5). The series can last anywhere from four to seven games depending on how quickly one team reaches four wins.
