There are two broad hazard groups in WHMIS 2020:
- Physical hazards
- Health hazards
Within these groups, there are 19 distinct classes in the physical hazards group and 12 classes in the health hazards group. So, in total, WHMIS 2020 organizes hazards into 2 main groups with a combined 31 classes across these groups.
