As of October 2025, a total of 28 hostages are believed to have died in Gaza captivity amid the conflict. Out of these 28 deceased hostages, only four bodies have been returned by Hamas to Israel despite previous agreements to return all the bodies. There are still 24 hostages' bodies remaining in Gaza. This number reflects the hostages who died either during the October 7, 2023 abduction or subsequently in captivity, with half of the original 251 hostages reportedly killed or deceased.
