Most standard historical accounts describe 353 planes reaching Oahu in two attack waves launched from six aircraft carriers, including fighters, dive- bombers, level bombers, and torpedo bombers. Some references also note that, out of a slightly larger force assembled for the operation, 350 actually participated in the raid, with the rest held back or assigned to other tasks.
