Over 30 people across the United States have been fired, placed on leave, investigated, or faced calls to resign due to social media posts criticizing or expressing joy over the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist. Most affected are public school educators, with at least 21 teachers having lost their jobs or been subjected to disciplinary action. Others include firefighters, military personnel, journalists, and employees from various organizations, such as the Carolina Panthers and the U.S. Secret Service. This wave of firings and sanctions is driven largely by conservative activists and some GOP officials who have publicized these posts and demanded consequences for those responsible. The total reported number of people impacted as of mid-September 2025 is around 33 individuals.
