In Formula 1 (F1), points are awarded to drivers based on their finishing position in each Grand Prix race. The current F1 points system (used since 2010) awards points to the top 10 finishers in a race as follows:

  • 1st place: 25 points
  • 2nd place: 18 points
  • 3rd place: 15 points
  • 4th place: 12 points
  • 5th place: 10 points
  • 6th place: 8 points
  • 7th place: 6 points
  • 8th place: 4 points
  • 9th place: 2 points
  • 10th place: 1 point

Drivers finishing 11th or lower do not receive points. Additionally, there is a separate points system for sprint races, where the top 8 finishers earn points ranging from 8 points for 1st place down to 1 point for 8th place. Until 2024, there was also a bonus point for the fastest lap of the race if set by a driver finishing in the top 10, but this extra point has been abolished starting from 2025. Thus, the number of points a driver can earn in a standard Grand Prix goes up to 25 for a win. Teams earn points collectively from their drivers' finishing positions in both the drivers' and constructors' championships.
