In South Carolina, a driver's license suspension due to points occurs as follows:
- Accumulating 12 to 15 points results in a 3-month suspension.
- Accumulating 16 or 17 points results in a 4-month suspension.
- Accumulating 18 or 19 points results in a 5-month suspension.
- Accumulating 20 or more points results in a 6-month suspension.
Points are assigned based on traffic violations, and after one year, points are reduced by half if no further violations occur
. Additionally, if you hold a beginner's permit, conditional, or special restricted license, accumulating 6 or more points results in a 6-month suspension
. If your license is suspended for excessive points, you have 10 days to request a hearing to challenge the suspension. You may also be eligible for a route-restricted license that allows driving to work or school, but only once in a lifetime for this type of suspension
