As of the most recent information available, the Innocence Project has helped achieve significant core criminal justice reforms in 17 states. These reforms address key issues such as police accountability, post-conviction DNA testing access, compensation for the wrongfully convicted, changes in forensic science standards, and prosecutorial accountability. Not every state has fully implemented all the core reforms promoted by the Innocence Project, but 17 states have passed pivotal legislation in line with their core reform agenda over the past several years. Additionally, across the U.S., the Innocence Project's advocacy has contributed to more than 250 transformative state laws and federal reforms aimed at preventing wrongful convictions and improving justice system fairness. However, full, comprehensive implementation of all core reforms promoted by the Innocence Project is still in progress and varies state by state.
