As of October 2025, there are currently 2 active yokozuna in professional sumo wrestling: Hōshōryū Tomokatsu, promoted in January 2025, and Ōnosato Daiki, promoted in May 2025. Ōnosato is a Japanese wrestler and the first Japanese yokozuna since 2017, while Hōshōryū is Mongolian. The rank of yokozuna is the highest in sumo and is awarded to wrestlers who have achieved outstanding performance, often by winning two consecutive grand tournaments at the rank of ōzeki or an equivalent performance.
