A home urine pregnancy test can sometimes detect pregnancy about 10 days after conception, but it is most reliable from the day your period is due (about 14 days after ovulation).

Typical timing

  • Most standard home tests are designed to be over 99% accurate from the first day of a missed period.
  • Some “early response” tests may turn positive up to 5–6 days before your missed period, but they miss many pregnancies this early, so negative results then are not very reliable.

Blood vs. urine tests

  • A blood pregnancy test at a clinic can usually detect pregnancy earlier, around 7–10 days after conception, because it can pick up much lower levels of hCG than urine tests.
  • If a home test is negative but your period is late, testing again in a few days or asking a clinician about a blood test is often recommended.

If you tell your cycle dates or when sex/ovulation happened, a more tailored “when to test” window can be estimated.
