To change the address in an Aadhaar card, the easiest and most common way is to update it online through the official UIDAI website. Here is the step-by- step process:
- Visit the official UIDAI website (uidai.gov.in) and go to the "My Aadhaar" section.
- Click on "Update Your Aadhaar" and select "Update Aadhaar Online".
- Log in using your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Choose the option to update your address.
- Enter the new address details accurately.
- Upload valid proof of address documents, such as an electricity bill, passport, rent agreement, bank statement, or other accepted documents.
- Review the details and submit the update request.
- You will receive a Service Request Number (SRN) or Update Request Number (URN) to track the status of your request.
- Typically, the address update is processed within 7 to 30 days.
- Once updated, you can download the updated e-Aadhaar from the UIDAI portal.
You must have a valid mobile number registered with your Aadhaar to receive OTPs for authentication during the update process. If you don’t have a registered mobile number or prefer not to update online, you can visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra in person with your original documents and fill out the update form for biometric verification. Accepted documents for address proof include electricity or water bills (not older than 3 months), passport, bank statements, ration card, driving license, voter ID card, property tax receipt, rent agreement (with the landlord’s signature), etc. There is a nominal fee of Rs. 50 for demographic updates like address changes. If you do not have address proof, you may update your address through an address validation letter signed by a verifier with a valid address. This process keeps your Aadhaar details current and is important for availing government services and other verifications linked to Aadhaar.
