An Apple AirTag does not have a rechargeable battery. Instead, it uses a user- replaceable CR2032 lithium 3V coin battery that typically lasts about a year before needing replacement
How to replace the AirTag battery:
- Press down on the polished stainless steel battery cover of the AirTag and rotate it counterclockwise until the cover stops turning and can be removed
- Remove the cover and take out the old battery
- Insert a new CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up. You will hear a sound indicating the battery is connected
- Align the three tabs on the cover with the three slots on the AirTag and replace the cover
- Rotate the cover clockwise until it stops and locks in place
You will receive a notification on your iPhone when the AirTag battery is low, or you can check the battery status in the Find My app under the Items tab
. In summary, you do not charge an AirTag; you replace its coin cell battery when it runs out
