To check the oil in a car, follow these steps:

  1. Park the car on a flat surface and turn off the engine. Let the engine cool down for several minutes so the oil can settle.
  2. Open the car's bonnet (hood) and locate the dipstick. It usually has a brightly colored handle (often yellow) and may have an oil can symbol.
  3. Pull the dipstick out completely and wipe it clean with a rag or paper towel.
  4. Insert the dipstick fully back into its tube and then pull it out again to check the oil level.
  5. Examine the oil level on the dipstick. It should be between the two marks indicating the minimum and maximum level (sometimes shown as "add" and "full" or cross-hatched areas).
  6. If the oil level is low or below the minimum mark, add the recommended oil gradually, checking the level each time to avoid overfilling.
  7. After checking or adding oil, securely replace the dipstick and close the bonnet.

Check the oil regularly (about once a month) to keep the engine in good condition and prevent damage from low oil levels.
