To clean Silverette silver nursing cups, rinse them with warm water between uses and occasionally polish them with a simple baking soda paste if they tarnish. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, dishwashers, or boiling, as silver is naturally antimicrobial and does not need sterilising.
Everyday cleaning
- After each feed, rinse the cups under warm running water and gently pat them dry with a clean towel.
- You can also wipe them inside and out with a water‑based baby wipe (around 99% water) if you do not have easy access to a sink, then let them air dry.
Deep clean and tarnish removal
- For tarnish or a deeper clean, put about one teaspoon of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) in a cup, add a few drops of water, and mix into a thick paste.
- Rub this paste over the entire surface of each Silverette with your fingers or a soft cloth, then rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry well.
What to avoid
- Do not use bleach, strong detergents, sterilising tablets, or abrasive scourers, as these can damage the silver surface.
- Do not boil the cups or put them in the dishwasher; the silver’s natural antimicrobial properties mean this level of disinfection is unnecessary.
